Being in marketing, I review a LOT of content and typically categorize it as Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt (FUD) messaging, little to no meat (DUD) fluff, or beefy, real-world (STUD) solutions. Categorization can be tough in Software Defined Networking since it involves understanding not only a number of complex technologies but also the overall strategy behind each vendor’s moves on the competitive chessboard.
To help you form your own opinions, Nuage Networks’ Founders Sunil Khandekar, CEO, Dimitri Stiliadis, CTO, and Florin Balus, VP of PM, will discuss and demo how our currently-shipping software provides fundamentally new capabilities and benefits at Network Field Day 8, part of the Tech Field Day event series. The event will be streamed live on Thursday 9/11 from 4-6 PM US Pacific time.
Drilling down, a great deal of SDN industry content revolves around a few themes:
- Scalability: Some vendors opine that Fortune 500-size scale can’t be handled without a proprietary, uni-vendor software stack, with or without purpose-built hardware.
- Purpose-built Hardware: Other vendors trumpet that purpose-built hardware is the only feasible networking option versus open x86-based approaches.
- Application-blind: The same vendors articulate (at least right now) that those pesky applications need to be left on their own while the plumbing gets reworked.
Nuage Networks was founded with a novel perspective on networking, one based on an open and unified approach. This perspective has led to unique capabilities for enterprises and service providers. These new capabilities enable the construction of a new network – one that is application-aware, allows choice of one or many best-of-breed components for each function, and scales elastically.
