As the Openstack community converges on Tokyo this week, much of the discussion is about operationalizing Openstack in growing production environments. Enterprise deployments stretch across datacenters and require all of the flexibility, automation and freedom of choice that has been promised, without compromising operational control and visibility over resources and workloads throughout the infrastructure.
Against that backdrop, how appropriate is it that HP would announce the availability of Helion OpenStack 2.0? Well, they have. In addition to industrializing Openstack with a slew of new capabilities that address lifecycle management and security challenges, enhance monitoring capabilities and facilitate updates without interruption, Helion has also taken big strides in terms of networking flexibility.
Helion OpenStack 2.0 enables cloud builders to create & manage Software-Defined Networking (SDN) in multi-datacenter environments through integration with HP Distributed Cloud Networking (DCN) and the Nuage Networks Virtualized Services Platform. This allows service providers and large organizations to manage a distributed, multi-tenanted, multi-datacenter environment in a simple, open and agile way like never before. It takes multi-DC networking to a whole new level.
As Openstack continues its remarkable journey, and enterprises their journey to the open cloud, one thing remains clear: For virtual machines, containers, or bare-metal workloads alike, the ability to place, manage, and network applications securely across any mix of server or physical network anywhere in the infrastructure will be key to delivering the agility and efficiency that are needed in the DevOps world and the cloud age.
